Chinese Erhu, Flute and Guzheng Virtuoso
Soloists Guangdong
is a prosperous province in South China; its capital, Canton, is the major
entrepot for international trade and culture. There
are 5 good reasons to producing this special album. -
Among
all types of Chinese music, Guangdong music has its uniqueness in expression and
structure - in particular, in the use of special Cantonese instruments.
-
The
feature piece of this album, "Autumn Moon Over A Placid Lake" was selected as
one of "The Best Chinese Music Compositions in the World during the 20th
Century." Hence, its quality is recognized as being on par with other major
works such as the "Butterfly Concerto." or the "Yellow River Concerto".
-
It
so happened that some of the best artists for Guangdong music were all avaliable
at the same time for recording, namely the maestros Qi Wei Yu, the first goahu
soloist in China; Kam Shing Huang, the best flutist; and Wei Li, the top huzheng
soloist.
-
It
is difficult to creating a new harmony in tonal color and arrangement for some
beautiful Guangdong music. It requires, inter alias, very talented artists with
profound music knowledge, excellence of improvisation, and great sensitivity to
play well enough with otheres in concert to create such a harmony. The maestros
in this recording can do it all, and did it very well.
-
Finally,
a deeply personal reason, my family came from Guangdong. I have desired to
produce a superior album that reflects my homeland.
